Bhubaneswar: The ruling BJD on Tuesday launched a broadside against Opposition Congress and BJP for holding a ‘symbolic’ session of assembly in December last year. Terming the ‘mock’ session as ‘unconstitutional’, the Treasury bench members even demanded action against the Opposition members for ‘lowering’ the dignity of the august house.
BJD MLA, Kalpataru Das moved the privilege motion during the zero hour against the opposition action in holding 'siege' to the House and running symbolic session after winter session of assembly was abruptly adjourned sine die on December 5 ahead of schedule.
The Assembly plunged into utter chaos forcing the Speaker to adjourn the house twice. Normal business resumed after the second adjournment when the Speaker informed the House that he had taken a decision on the privilege motion moved by treasury bench members and the matter was under consideration.
“The symbolic session disrespected the House. Post independence, nowhere in the country the system was seen,” Das said.
Leader of Opposition, Bhupinder Singh, however, put up a brave front and said that “the ruling party deliberately wrapped up the session fearing our attack on different issues, involving the mega mining fraud”.
