Rourkela: A local fast-track court has sentenced two persons to rigorous life imprisonment for killing a man in 2010. The fast-track court judge Gobabandhu Patnaik yesterday convicted Deiptiranjan Palaur and Pratap Nayak for killing one of their friends Uttam Rout on August 5, 2010.

Bhubaneswar: With the 19-year-old dalit rape victim of Pipli struggling for survival at the ICU of SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack, the State Commission for Women (SCW) held "doctors responsible" for the teenager's deteriorated health condition. "Had the proper steps been taken in due time by the physicians of different hospitals, the health condition of the victim would not have deteriorated," SCW chairperson Jyoti Panigrahi said in the inquiry report submitted to the state government.

Melbourne: Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was scathing in his criticism of his bowlers for bowling too many loose deliveries against Australia as they lost the first match of the one-day series at the MCG, here today. "If you see the game, they bowled too short. Two (bowlers) went for a lot of runs. You do bowl loose deliveries but there are certain so loose that they would always go for a four or a six," Dhoni said after his side's 65-run defeat.

Melbourne: A lackluster India opened their cricket tri-series campaign on a disappointing note as they slumped to a 65-run defeat against Australia, who yet again exposed the batting chinks of the visitors in a rain-truncated encounter, here today. Australia recovered from a few early jolts to score 216 for five in their 32 overs and then bundled out the visitors for 151 in 29.4 overs at the flood-lit MCG.

Pune: Small-time Tamil actress Caroline Mariya Asan was arrested in a prostitution case from a five-star hotel in Viman Nagar here last evening, police said today. "We laid a trap and sent a decoy customer. Caroline is quite popular in Chennai. Keonjhar: A tribal man was arrested for allegedly killing a woman suspecting her to be a witch in Keonjhar district, police said today. The accused, identified as Ananda Majhi (28) of Gorandijodi village, surrendered before the police at Saharpada outpost with the sliced head of Rimili Majhi, after beheading the tribal widow on Saturday, they said.
